Café Carl – where great flavours meet the forest

At Café Carl, you’ll find everything from freshly baked cakes and pastries to simple, well-prepared dishes, just as perfect after a day out on the trails as for a quiet moment with a good cup of coffee. We’re passionate about rustic, uncomplicated food: generous flavours, quality ingredients, and honest cooking with hearty portions and plenty of character.

Whenever we can, we also make the most of what the surrounding nature has to offer. We gather herbs and edible plants from the forest, adding seasonal flavours to both our food and bakes, making our menu feel alive and a little different each time you visit. There’s plenty for younger guests to enjoy too, with games, activities and open spaces where imaginations can run wild.

Workshops & Events

Creative experiences for all ages. Here, both children and adults have the chance to explore the surroundings and their own creativity, sometimes together, sometimes with a special focus on one group. In our workshops, you can try a variety of artistic techniques inspired by the forest and the natural world around us. The emphasis is on experimenting, playing and discovering your own expression in a relaxed and inspiring setting, guided by an artist.

We also offer mushroom foraging walks, yoga, forest bathing and other events for those looking to unwind, recharge and enjoy something a little out of the ordinary.

Open-Fire Cooking

Cook your own meal over an open fire, a truly authentic outdoor experience to share together. Simple, atmospheric, and perfect for groups of 10 or more. Advance booking is required. Get in touch for menu options and pricing. Open-fire cooking can be booked from 2 March to 14 June and from 7 September to 31 October.

Food Experiences

We create a range of food events in different styles, each with its own atmosphere and character.

In 10 Flavours from the Forest, we let nature and the seasons take the lead, inviting you to explore ingredients deeply rooted in the surrounding landscape.

In A Taste of Old Värmland, we draw inspiration from the region’s culinary heritage, reimagining traditional flavours in our own way.

Alongside these, we create other dining experiences too, sometimes more traditional, sometimes a little more unexpected, but always with the same philosophy: working closely with the ingredients and letting simplicity shine through. Here, game, berries, herbs, acidity and sweetness come together in different ways depending on the occasion.

Meetings, Small Conferences, Celebrations & Team Kick-offs

Café Carl can be hired outside our regular opening hours, offering a peaceful setting with space for both focus and good company.

We’re happy to help create an arrangement tailored to your needs, whether you’re planning a creative workshop, a meeting, a small conference or a celebration. Food and experiences are shaped around your wishes, with the same care and attention that goes into everything we do.

Food trailer

Our new food trailer brings the cooking closer to our guests at the café. Here, we grill game burgers packed with rich wild flavours and bake wild-inspired pizzas made with simple, carefully selected ingredients.

Our food trailer is also available to book for catering at parties, weddings and other events where you’re looking for something personal and genuinely delicious. During the quieter season, we travel around Värmland, popping up wherever the occasion takes us.

Things to Experience Around Café Carl

Several walking trails start right by Café Carl, including a beautiful 6 km route through the forest and along Lake Stora Gla. It’s an easy and scenic walk, also well suited for pushchairs.

If you’d like to combine your meal with a paddle on the water, Glaskogen Canoe Centre is just around the corner.

Nearby, you’ll also find the Glaskogen Information Centre and campsite, where you can discover everything you need to know about Glaskogen and outdoor life in the area. Here you can buy your Glaskogen permit and fishing licence, browse a small shop with food and outdoor essentials, or stay overnight at our beautiful wilderness campsite.

And if you’d like to take a little piece of Glaskogen home with you, we also sell locally made crafts and other locally produced goods.
